28: Halloween Safety

 

Come participate in teaching young students how to be safe on Halloween day! At Cromie Elementary School, we are hosting an assembly for first and second graders, teaching them the rules of Halloween day such as: Stay in groups, don't eat already opened candy, wear reflective clothing or a badge to show where you are to drivers, and many more!

30: Halloween Lock-in

 

Our first lock-in for the year! A lock-in is when the SLS group and friends, go to a building and get locked in over night, from 7pm to 7am. While we are locked in, there will be fun events and activities such as a haunted house room and karaoke. Come over and bring all of your friends, anyone and everyone is welcome! Admission is $10 or $5 if you bring a food item.

november          Theme: Anxiety and stress     

7-9: State conference

 

Attend a statewide conference to learn about Student Leadership Services, and create bonds with the Student Advisory Board and students from other chapters around the state. We will spend a weekend at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, MI. Contact us for details if you wish to attend.

16-20: Semicolon week 

 

SLS will be having a week on resistance of suicide in bully situations. Anyone who wants to participate will wear a semicolon (;) on their hand and carry a paper for teachers to read in the beginning of the hour. If you would like to participate please see one of our board members!

24: Bowling Night

 

Come bond with friends through a few games of bowling! We will be having a bowling night to have fun as our fun activity for the month. Details will be provided at a closer date.

december          Theme: Acceptance in sexuality

2-7: Sticky notes

 

SLS will be filling out sticky notes with inspirational and meaningful messages to stick on every locker in the school. We need help writing them, if you would like to help please go to Mr. Bartlett's room on any of these days: Nov 2-4.

18: Christmas caroling

 

Come sing carols to many different places, such as: retirement homes, apartments, and plenty of homes. Give us a recommendation to go to your homes to surprise your families! More details will be provided.

January          Theme: Diversity acceptance

8-11: Diversity Challenge

 

At each lunch, we will be giving each student that comes to our table a cup of fruit snacks and ask them what is the difference between them, most likely they will say "It's a different color or flavor!", when in reality, they are the same. It will show that the snacks look the same but can be accepted, to show Diversity and Acceptance.

30: snow ball

 

Snow Ball is our formal winter dance, similar to homecoming. Many people who have attended Snow Ball in the past say they enjoy it more than homecoming, since it is less packed, more personal, song requests are played sooner, and it is more relaxed than homecoming. Friends and dates are welcome, of course, and they are not required to fill out a guest pass. As usual, it will be held in the evening at the Elk's Lodge, at 25950 Schoenherr Rd in Warren.

february          Theme: Relationships

9: Movie Night

 

We will be showing a few movies about relationships in multiple situations. After the movies we will discuss how the movies relate to real life problems. Feel free to bring friends as well as blankets and pillows.

12: Holiday Lock-in

 

A lock-in is when the SLS group and friends, go to a building and get locked in over night, from 7pm to 7am. This Lock-in will be holiday themed with events like white elephant gifting. We celebrate all holidays like Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, and others! Come over and bring all of your friends, anyone and everyone is welcome! Admission is $10 or $5 if you bring a food item.

12: Be-you-ty pageant

 

In an effort to spread the positive influence of our group, we will be holding our third annual Be-You-ty Pageant on the 31st at Mr. Bartlett's church, the Heritage Church of Christ, at 529 Grove Avenue. The pageant is focused on our organization's mission, rather than looks. Contestants will prepare a speech, perform a talent, and answer an SLS-related question. Both males and females are welcome to run and have done so in the past. A three-course meal will be served. Admission is $10, or $5 for those 10 and under or 65 and over. Hope to see you there!

7-11: red ribbon week
11: GRIM REAPER DAY

 

Red Ribbon Week will consist of daily events, each dedicated to preventing drug and alcohol use. The week will end with Grim Reaper Day, where 52 students band together to demonstrate the effects of drunk driving. Each day, 52 people die due to an alcohol related crash, and the 52 students will each wear a shirt designed specifically for Grim Reaper Day. Students will not speak or acknowledge others for the entire day, showing what would happen if that student had been one of those killed in an alcohol related crash.

6: Laser Tag

 

Come have a blast with the SLS group at laser tag, we will be playing some games of laser tag. There will be an admission and details like location and time will be provided as the event comes closer.

21: Community Service Event

 

SLS will be going around to parks and other locations and picking up trash and beautifying the landscape. Come help us make the Earth a more clean place! Locations and details will be provided when the event comes closer.

11: Relay For life

 

SLS will have a tent at Relay for Life at the Warren Civic Center. Relay for Life is the city of Warren's annual walk to raise money for cancer research. The overall theme is cereal, and our group's theme is Fruity Pebbles, so be sure to dress up! Bring money to purchase what different tents have to offer, and bring plenty of sunscreen. Come show support by spending the day at our tent or purchasing items or donating!

17: Senior farewell lock-in

 

This will be our final Lock-in for the year. We will be sending our seniors in the group off to the world and will say our final goodbyes. There will be cool events like Karaoke and a game room. Please bring your friends and make the final Lock-in be awesome! It will be form 7pm to 7am and doors will close around 11pm. Admission is $10 or $5 with a food item to share.
